Hello Jens,

I own a TC64 of one of the first badges. FiddeIing around with it since then... I can remember that there was a discussion about a 'unstable' slightly hissing picture quality with some of them because of a weak/ bad resistor which could/should be replaced in order to solve that problem. Are you doing this and is it somehow covered by warranty? Otherwise, I could chance that part without any problem by myself, if you could tell me which one is needed...

Thanks
Chris

Hi Chris,

what you're referring to does not affect the first production run, but
the second production run only. It's not a bad resistor, but a wrong
capacitor value in combination with a different type of linear voltage
regulator that needs to be fixed.

If you own the first version with yellow silkscreen print, there is no
need to change anything.

If you own the second version with white silkscreen print and the
voltage regulator area looks "not patched", then the patch is covered by
warranty, no matter when you send it in (you can have that patch anytime
for free, even if your unit is older than two years).

If you have one of the later units with the barcode on the side of the
box, then you have a unit from the second production run that has the
power-fix applied to at the SMD production level. That means: The unit
looks "not patched", but actually has the same patch applied as required
to achieve full stability and no stripes in the VGA picture. If you
don't have the box any more, just check for the silver sticker at the
outside of the box: If it's there, you don't need a patch.

If you're unsure what version you have, just take pictures of your unit
(top+bottom of the bare PCB) and send them to me. And before too many
people eMail me: Only a few intermediate versions of the second
(=current) production run are affected, which can be identified from the
serial number sticker at the bottom of the PCB. The combination of
"square serial number sticker at bottom" and "unpatched power regulation
area" is what might need a patch.

If you are really not sure, then please open a support ticket through
the contact page on icomp.de. Once I've answered, you can send
attachments to that eMail address (attachments don't work on this
mailinglist).

ciao,
Jens
